Brits are increasingly spending a substantial portion of their wedding budgets on capturing every moment of their big day, new research reveals. According to a study by CEWE, Europe’s leading photo printing company, couples are allocating up to 20% of their total wedding budget to documenting their nuptials.
With the average cost of a wedding in the UK now standing at approximately £20,000, couples are eager to ensure they get their money’s worth. This has led to a surge in demand for a variety of content creation services. Beyond traditional photographers and videographers, many are now investing in additional forms of media, such as professional wedding reels, TikToks, and more.
The research highlights a growing trend towards incorporating innovative technology into wedding documentation. Live-streaming is becoming popular, with 17% of couples choosing to broadcast their ceremonies in real-time. Drones are also gaining traction, with 15% opting for aerial shots, while 10% are using wearable cameras to capture every angle of their special day.
Despite these technological advancements, traditional photography remains the most sought-after method for preserving wedding memories. A significant 73% of respondents have hired a professional wedding photographer. The importance of this service is underscored by the fact that one in ten (10%) would even consider postponing their wedding if their photographer cancelled at the last minute.
The research also found that while digital content is increasingly important, many couples still value the tangible aspect of a wedding album. Over two-thirds (68%) prefer a classic photo album to a purely digital collection of images, reflecting a desire for physical keepsakes that can be shared with friends and family for years to come.
Petra Felgen, Managing Director at CEWE UK, commented on the findings: “With the average wedding costing £20,000, it’s understandable that couples want to capture every unique and special detail of their big day. Investing in a range of creative content allows couples to relive their wedding memories time and time again.”
Felgen added, “While it might seem that modern couples are more focused on social media content, our research shows that traditional photography still holds significant value. Couples continue to cherish and share wedding albums, which offer a lasting way to remember their special day.”
