Governance arrangements for Scottish village halls

Scottish charity regulator OSCR has published technical guidance for people who are advising village hall charities about incorporation as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) or a company, or making changes to their governing document.

Getting privacy notices right for data protection

New guidance on privacy notices, where organisations explain how they use personal data in accordance with data protection regulations, has been issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Practical trustee guide on charity fundraising

New publication ‘Trustees and Fundraising: a practical handbook’ has been jointly produced by Institute of Fundraising, Charity Finance Group, ACEVO and NCVO. It “provides a one-stop shop for experienced and new trustees alike, to help a charity board pick its way through the complicated territory that is fundraising”.

Charities notified of Fundraising Regulator levy

All of the 2000 or so charities that will be subject to the Fundraising Regulator’s levy should have received a letter about the charge, addressed to the CEO. This is due to be followed by an invoice, with the exact payment requirements.

The levy applies to charities in England and Wales that spend £100,000 or more each year on fundraising activity, and will be charged on the basis of the annual return to the Charity Commission made by charities for the year ended 31st December 2014. » Continue reading news item ... “Charities notified of Fundraising Regulator levy”

Updated trustee form for registering Scottish charities

Scottish charity regulator OSCR has updated its Charity Trustee Declaration Forms, used in applications for charitable status. From October onwards only the new forms will be accepted.

These forms allow the people in management and control of the charity – the charity trustees – to assure us that they are aware of their responsibilities and are not disqualified. The new form also collects details allowing us to email all the charity trustees details of registration and charity trustee duties should the organisation be granted charitable status.
