Community groups and charities are being reminded to check that they are correctly licensed to share TV coverage, of summer sports or other events for instance.
TV Licensing has produced a new ‘Clubs and Community Group Viewing Guide‘ – single page pdf, 549KB.
“You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes as they’re being shown on TV at a club or community group. This includes the use of devices such as a TV, computer, mobile phone, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder. Usually you only need one TV Licence to cover a club or community group.”
Sector body NAVCA reports that TV Licensing enquiry officers will be visiting unlicensed clubs, sports halls and community centres throughout the summer. Any group found watching TV illegally risks a court prosecution and fine of up to £1,000 per offence, plus costs.
