New ‘Social Care Reward’ Benchmarking Study welcomes Expressions of Interest

A new benchmarking study, Social Care Reward 2016-17, is being developed by Agenda Consulting in partnership with Voluntary Organisations Disability Group (VODG). The study aims to help social care organisations develop and compare their pay, and reward policies and practices with others in the sector.

Agenda Consulting is calling on social care organisations to express their interest in the study, with no obligation to take part, by 30 April 2016.

On average, the organisational paybill in social care organisations represents two thirds of their total expenditure [i], making it the biggest area of expenditure by some way.

The study will benchmark basic and enhanced pay for frontline staff, as well as a whole range of other benefits including pension contributions, maternity and paternity pay, and annual leave.

Basic pay is measured for support workers in 9 English regions and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Basic pay is measured by London and rest of UK, for:

  • apprentice support workers
  • specialist support workers
  • bank/relief staff
  • senior support workers
  • qualified nurses
  • nurse team-leader
  • deputy service managers
  • service managers
  • area managers

Roger Parry, Director at Agenda Consulting said: “There is continued financial pressure on social care organisations, and new legislation such as the National Living Wage will compound this issue and increase the need for up-to-date information about pay and reward.

Almost 30 organisations have already expressed their interest in taking part and we hope many more follow suit. There is a growing need in the sector for benchmarking data – not only to help with strategic decisions about rewards, but also to ensure similar organisations offer the best packages they can to attract and retain talent, and keep people engaged and motivated.”

Organisations taking part will receive a tailored scorecard report which highlights their performance in relation to their chosen peers and the whole sample, as well as a sector-wide report which will include a commentary and detailed information about the performance on each measure. Organisations will also be invited to attend a free workshop to discuss the results and share good practice.

The study is being shaped by a reference group of key social care providers including: Dimensions, United Response, Mencap and The National Autistic Society.

Once the study has launched, Early Bird prices will start at £550 for VODG members, and £585 for non-members. The early bird discount expires on 29 July 2016. Non-participants will have the opportunity to purchase the report for £1200. (All prices exclude VAT).
