Online tools to assess organisational strength

Two new online tools supported by the Big Lottery Fund are designed to give voluntary organisations the ability to improve their performance and sustainability.

Strength Checker

The VCSE Strength Checker, which will be available from 1st February, will

“produce a personalised report highlighting an organisation’s key strengths and areas to help them become more effective, including sustainability, marketing, strategy and planning, track record, quality and impact.”

It is expected that the tool will be predominantly used by small-to-medium organisations but can also be used by larger ones in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

Scottish and N Ireland pilot

A new project “to assess and strengthen the capacity of third sector organisations in Northern Ireland and Scotland” will be using different diagnostic software, the Core Capacity Assessment Tool.

Fifty organisations will be selected to participate in Scotland and 50 in Northern Ireland, again supported by the Big Lottery Fund. Scottish umbrella body ACOSVO has some details, including how to register interest. Or read Third Force News article.

The Core Capacity Assessment Tool website says that it is a 146-question online survey. From a quick look it appears to be an existing American facility, with the CCAT website suffering from poor text contrast.
