Implications of EU data protection changes

With changes to European Union data protection regulations* due to come in, but not before late 2017, NCVO has set up a working group to tackle the implications for an ‘opt-in’ approach to fundraising communications.

The chief executive of NCVO is quoted by Civil Society News: “The European rules move us to a system of unambiguous consent. This group will help charities understand what this means and the timescales involved for implementation.”

Over the next six months, the group will be engaging with charities, the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Charity Commission to ensure the recommendations help charities prepare for the new regime and meet the new obligations.

See NCVO’s article ‘Charities to work together on moving to opt in‘ for more, including terms of reference for ‘Working Group on ‘Opt In’ in Fundraising’ (pdf, 343KB).
