Keeping charity assets away from terrorists

The Charity Commission has reminded organisations of their legal responsibilities after investigations found charity assets in terrorist hands.

It has issued an alert as regulatory advice under section 15(2) of the Charities Act 2011, of particular relevance for trustees of charities which are “operating in countries or areas where terrorist groups or organisations exert control, are known to operate or where there is a risk of terrorism”.
