Change and impact through community journalism

A new case study report from the Carnegie UK Trust adds to the evidence base about the types of activities that hyperlocal news providers are undertaking and the impact they deliver for citizens.

The report seeks to help inspire those who are considering starting a hyperlocal news group or seeking to expand their organisation’s activities; and to demonstrate the success of hyperlocal practitioners in bringing a greater plurality of voices to the UK journalism sector.

A Third Force News article highlights that such community journalism creates 2,500 news stories a week from passionate, mostly volunteer-led reporters.

‘Click and Connect: Case studies of innovative hyperlocal news providers’ is available in pdf, 2.7MB, from Carnegie UK publication page.

The report’s publication coincides with the launch of Local Web List, a revamped directory of hyperlocal news providers across the UK and Ireland. The website is a replacement for the Openly Local listing.
