Plea to reinstate old Charity Commission website

A petition to reinstate the free-standing Charity Commission website has been started on 38Degrees by the legal firm Withers.

The preamble says

(the Commission website) is no longer bespoke, and, as a consequence, much of the very helpful guidance and information which used to be there is no longer readily available, which is to the detriment of those for whom it would have been useful.

And this has happened just when the Commission has revised the way it works, and is encouraging all charities to look to its online guidance, rather than to seek direct engagement with the Commission for advice.

The Commission web pages are now part of gov.uk, and your editor does find it more frustrating experience trying to find material. Also the much stated independence of the Commission appears compromised, with web addresses not making any differentiation with governmental pages.
