Proposals for Scottish lobbying transparency

The Scottish Government has opened a consultation on proposals to establish a lobbying register for the Scottish Parliament.

The register would cover lobbying of Members of the Scottish Parliament, including Ministers, by both paid consultant and in-house lobbyists. Individuals would need to register before lobbying MSPs and Ministers.

See official news release, or go direct to the consultation documents. Respond by 24th July.

Ireland’s lobbying register

Also worth a quick note on VoluntaryNews, Ireland’s Regulation of Lobbying Act will require registrations from September this year.

Organisations that employ more than ten staff, or one or more staff for those with the primary activity of lobbying/advocacy, will be required to record all lobbying activity/communications that they engage in with Designated Public Officials.
