Growth in community shares to be supported by quality standard

The Community Shares Standard has been launched as a quality mark for community share offers that meet standards of good practice. The Community Shares Unit has also published new data which shows rapid growth in the number of communities who are pooling resources to buy and run local assets together.

The report ‘Inside the Market’ finds that the number of people putting money into community share schemes, becoming part owners of a local enterprise, has increased nearly 20-fold in the last five years.

See Community Shares Unit news item for more and link to the report, or direct download link (pdf, 1.4MB).

The Standard is not a guarantee that the business will be successful but that it has been independently assessed to have adopted good practices in developing the share offer, and is committed to these standards. Find out more on the Community Shares Standard.
