Charities seeking to understand more about their volunteers should participate in ‘Volunteers Count 2015’, the Third Sector’s leading volunteer management benchmarking study run by Agenda Consulting in partnership with the Association of Volunteer Management, Charities HR Network, Mental Health Providers Forum and Voluntary Organisations Disability Group.
Taking part in Volunteers Count 2015 will give charities key metrics about their volunteers so they can benchmark their performance and compare it with others in the sector. They will gain insight into their volunteer community and solid evidence on which to base strategic decisions.
The study will reveal key metrics about the profile of their volunteers, their recruitment and selection, retention and turnover rates, learning and development, support and supervision as well as the contribution made by volunteers to the charity and their return on investment.
The results will help organisations identify any improvement opportunities, look at best practice and spot any potential volunteer workforce issues as well as improvement opportunities.
Roger Parry, Director of Agenda Consulting comments: “Volunteers Week is a time when charities really focus on the value and contribution their volunteers make. As many charities have more volunteers than employees it’s vital they understand how volunteers are performing, how well they are managed and supported and the contribution they make. It is also helpful for organisations to see how their approach to volunteer management compares with others in the sector.
“We’ve already seen a rise in the number of organisations signing up for Volunteers Count 2015, indicating that volunteer management is an increasingly important focus for charities.”
RSPB has participated in Volunteer Count since it started. Alan Murray, Head of Volunteering at RSPB said: “We were keen to see what information other organisations hold on volunteers and volunteering and benchmark ourselves against our peers and the wider sector. Volunteers Count is the first and only tool that offers this.”
Jess Collings, Volunteer Coordinator at Eden Project added that Volunteers Count “gives clear statistics and helps to really cement the importance of volunteers within your organisation.”
Several well-known organisations have already signed up to the study include Alzheimer’s Society, British Red Cross, CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for Children, Christian Aid, Guide Dogs, Marie Curie, MS Society, RNLI, RSPB and Shelter, amongst others.
Agenda Consulting is running a series of free webinars to demonstrate how Volunteer Count works. Visit www.agendaconsulting.co.uk for dates and times of the seminars and to sign up.
The company is also offering early bird discount prices for companies who sign up to Volunteers Count before 19th June 2015. The deadline for the completion of questionnaires is 17 July 2015.
