The Community Shares Standard has been launched as a quality mark for community share offers that meet standards of good practice. The Community Shares Unit has also published new data which shows rapid growth in the number of communities who are pooling resources to buy and run local assets together.

Sector umbrella bodies are to work together on producing guidance on fundraising.
This follows recent public concern about some charity fundraising tactics, and also an interview statement from the Minister for Civil Society that fundraising bodies need to do more to convince him that self-regulation works.

Government proposals for employees to receive three days of volunteering leave are to go ahead, the Minister for Civil Society confirmed in a recent speech.
We put at the heart of our manifesto a commitment to 3 days of paid volunteering leave for employees in large organisations. Many companies do this already but we’ll make this a reality for more people – a new entitlement for millions which will unleash a new wave of skills, capability and passion to help others.

A new toolkit created by Volunteer Scotland and Voluntary Arts Scotland is designed to help arts organisations reach out to, recruit and retain volunteers.
It has been produced to support small and medium-sized arts groups who struggle to improve the support they offer volunteers.
The toolkit includes:
- Ideas, suggestions and recommendations.
- A range of checklists for those new to working with
- A range of case studies to celebrate what is already
happening across the sector.

A new survey asks ‘Is the NHS Standard Contract a barrier to commissioning voluntary organisations?’. To address this issue, the idea of a shorter version of the NHS Standard Contract for low-value contracts is being explored. Regional Voices, working with NHS England, is carrying out a survey to help understand specific issues which organisations have experienced in using the Standard Contract. The Local Sustainability Fund, first trailed by the government back in March 2014, has been launched by the Office for Civil Society with sufficient money to “help around 250 voluntary organisations to secure their futures”. The twenty million pounds is half of the amount originally suggested.
