Scotland to put carers rights into law

New Scottish legislation will establish the rights of carers in law for the first time, and entitle every adult carer in Scotland to their own support plan, with a similar commitment to young carers.

Once the bill has been approved by the Scottish Parliament, carers will have a right to receive certain support from their local authority if their needs meet eligibility criteria. Other measures will include the establishment of local carer advice and information centres in every local authority area.
