First analysis of NI charity register

The Northern Ireland charity regulator has published an analysis of information held on the new register of charities, just over a year after registration began. At that point, 786 charities had been registered by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

A few stats:

  • Annual income ranged from less than £100 to almost £200 million.
  • The top 20% of charities by income account for more than 80% of the sector total.
  • Just over half of registered charities are unincorporated associations.
