Using data to understand and transform social action

Over the past year, innovation charity Nesta has supported research projects that explore two dimensions of how big and open data can be used for the common good:

  • how it can be used by charities to develop better products and services.
  • how it can help those interested in civil society better understand social action and civil society activity.

While not the definitive story of the opportunities in using big and open data, the projects described in its report can show that “better data can help provide a better understanding of the often neglected but vitally important role of social action”.
