The top content on a web page does matter

Articles from web usability experts Nielsen Norman Group, in particular Jakob Nielsen’s, are often worth a read by anyone interested in effective websites. While not one of Jakob’s, ‘The Fold Manifesto: Why the Page Fold Still Matters’ is one for the list, especially when talking about an average difference in impact of 84 per cent.

What appears at the top of the page will always influence the user experience, regardless of screen size. “The fold” (where the viewable area cuts out) matters because scrolling is an extra action that users need to take to access content. Read more at
