Crafting an impact narrative out of data

A ‘Challenge’ exercise set by the Social Impact Analysts Association, Canada branch, has been developed primarily as a learning and professional development opportunity for Social Impact Analysts. For 2014, it focused on the process of creating a report from performance data, and anyone involved in charity reporting might find it useful.

Teams were provided with the same packet of quantitative and qualitative data provided by a real Canadian charity, and were asked to create a comprehensive, concise and compelling assessment of a charity’s impact. A new report shares the results of the 2014 Challenge, available in pdf, 2.1MB, via

The SIAA Challenge is set to continue. It won’t always focus on reporting, but “Keeping the challenge short allows busy professionals to participate; keeping it focused keeps it informative”.
