Lack of transparency in web filters hits charities

OpenDemocracy has an article exploring how internet filters in Britain are blocking charities and feminist websites. In 2013, the government persuaded Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to implement filters, which block ‘adult content’ at the network level. On by default on mobiles, there is one level of access per household.

Volunteers from the Open Rights Group have built www.blocked.org.uk, allowing you to check whether or not a specific URL is blocked by UK mobile networks/ISP.
