Parliamentary committee call for evidence on new charity law

The recently established Joint (parliamentary) Committee on the draft Protection of Charities Bill has issued its Call for Evidence. The committee is due to report in February, so has a tight timetable with a 16th December deadline for written evidence. See previous news items (below) and the committee news page.

It will limit its inquiry to specific contents of the draft Bill rather than charity policy more generally. Possible issues include: Is the Government right to expand the criteria for the automatic disqualification of trustees? Are there sufficient safeguards in the Bill for those subject to sanction by the Charity Commission?
