This month’s Disclosure and Barring Service newsletter includes a piece ‘Volunteers: who is eligible?’. They have seen a noticeable increase in some organisations submitting checks for volunteers who are not eligible for a DBS check, and this gives some basic guidance.

It is only too obvious why organisations require DBS checks for every one, you only have to skip read the legislation to find that it is a “belt and bracers” approach by a bunch of “job’s worth’s”. It is typical legislation that lacks assertion and direction. Well thought out legislation that takes a lead is what’s needed but this would take resources and these are not going to be forthcoming, under any government.
