Setting up a charity, trustee duties

The Charity Commission has published revised guidance on setting up and registering a charity. It is hoping that the user-friendly format will encourage people to think carefully before setting up a charity, with the guide suggesting alternatives to creating a new charity such as volunteering for an existing one or setting up a named donor fund with a Community Foundation.

Commission news release, find ‘How to set up a charity’ (CC21a) here, and ‘How to register your charity’ (CC21b).

The Commission has also produced two new audio podcasts, designed to help charity trustees understand their duties under charity law. The topics are ‘Beneficiaries as trustees’ and ‘Managing disputes’. News item http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/news/new-audio-podcasts-from-the-commission-(1)/, and all podcasts are linked here.
