A pilot project is to provide funding and advice to community-owned shops to help urban communities overcome the issue of accessing good food and everyday provisions. Communities can share their experiences and express an interest in Our Urban Shop at http://www.communityshops.coop/urban by 5pm on 16th June, or see the news item at http://www.plunkett.co.uk/newsandmedia/news-item.cfm/newsid/752.
Applications for the capital grants from the Community Assets and Services Fund run by the SIB Group are open until 26th June. Grants are available for the purchase and refurbishment of assets, with applications that meet as least one of this year’s themes given preference. Themes are Empty Buildings and Derelict Land, Community Share Matching, and Community Assets Under the Hammer. See http://www.sibgroup.org.uk/communityrights/capital/.
