Developments in Scottish water rates issue

Third Force News reports on the continuing issues around water rates in Scotland. Water rates were separated from local business rates in 2008, and Business Stream, an arm of Scottish Water, has been issuing increasing numbers of bills to charities for unpaid water rates going back to then.

Many smaller charities and community organisations are exempt but Business Stream has been late in clarifying matters. The Scottish Government has now intervened and Business Stream has agreed to put a hold on the bills of charities involved.
