Charity investment guidance

The Charity Commission (England and Wales) has published two revised model schemes for Common Investment Funds, to ensure that CIFs are compliant with the implementation of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive. This follows consultation in the summer.

The government has also added to its document series on improving access to finance for charities and social enterprises with a section on ‘Co-mingling funds’, https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/social-investment. This tackles the subject of philanthropic money, usually from a charitable foundation, being invested alongside more commercial funds, in projects that hope to achieve a positive social outcome as well as a return on the investment.
