Report from ACEVO Governance Commission

The Governance Commission, set up by chief executives body ACEVO after a noticeable increase in calls to its Governance Helpline service, has issued its report ‘Realising the Potential of Governance’.

Key recommendations include:

  •   Charities should ensure that they have processes for appraisal of trustees, individually and collectively, as well as for the chief executive.
  •   Boards should consider implementing defined term limits for trustees, staggered to ensure an appropriate rate of turnover.

The Guardian has an article from ACEVO’s senior policy officer, ‘Good governance is increasingly essential for charities‘ while ACEVO’s news release has further recommendations and link to the full report (pdf, 429KB) http://www.acevo.org.uk/governance-report-2013-, or direct link http://www.acevo.org.uk/document.doc?id=2561.
