Judicial review changes could stop charity campaigns

An email from solicitors Bates Wells Braithwaite highlights the government consultation on reforms to judicial review which include a proposed restriction on who can bring judicial review cases. This could stop charities and other not for profits using the courts to uphold the law and as part of campaigning challenges. The consultation runs to 1st November, see https://consult.justice.gov.uk/digital-communications/judicial-review.

Note: BWB have a training event on 6th November which covers challenging and campaigning using public law. They also have circulated an email about a roundtable discussion of the latest proposals to reform judicial review, presented by BWB, NCVO and Matrix Chambers, on 14th October.
