Charities may speak out on Scottish referendum

The Scottish charity regulator OSCR has published ‘Guidance for charity trustees on the referendum on independence for Scotland’ and unlike its earlier draft version this has been welcomed by sector body SCVO, whose chief executive said “Charities play a huge role in public life in Scotland so the referendum is bound to have a big impact on them. It is important that third sector organisations are able to get fully involved in the debate and this guidance from OSCR will help them to think about the issues involved, whilst adhering to the law.”

The regulator has also produced webcasts with three charities setting out how they approached the issue and considered the referendum as part of their strategic planning. These and the guidance from this OSCR page or get the guidance direct (pdf, 284Kb).
