Addressing lack of financial capability in small charities

Charity Finance Group and the Small Charities Coalition have produced a report into financial management in small charities. It takes a wide reaching look at financial management roles and practices in small charities, along with the challenges they face, and highlights key areas where additional support would be of most benefit.

Changes to charity annual return and public register

The Charity Commission (England and Wales) is inviting comments on proposed changes to the Annual Return and the content of the Register of Charities for 2014 onwards.

The ten proposals include questions on whether the charity has particular policies in place, such as safeguarding vulnerable beneficiaries, and whether the charity pays trustees for carrying out trustee duties. Explaining NI charity registration

  •  One of the biggest trade retailers in the UK, Screwfix, has set up a charity that will provide grants for charities to fix, maintain and improve their properties.   •  Investment, one-to-one business support plus peer learning and networking and access to business premises are on offer from the new Social Incubator North. The idea or business must aim to make a lasting positive social or environmental impact, and be based in the northern half of England (“Derby to the Borders”).
