Improving sector financial data

A paper from Third Sector Research Centre and NCVO describes a new process for collecting useful data on the finances of voluntary organisations. A sample of 10,000 charities has been designed to permit totals, for example total statutory income, to be accurately estimated by size, region and sub-sector.

‘Collecting and classifying data from charity accounts for England and Wales’ working paper, and there is also a discussion of the challenges of producing better quality information on the scale and impact of the third sector in ‘Improving the evidence base’ at http://www.tsrc.ac.uk/Blog/tabid/504/EntryId/41/Improving-the-evidence-base.aspx.
