Risks and possibilities of public service delivery

A couple of discussion articles around public service contracts may be of interest.

  • From Charity Finance group website, ‘Public service delivery is risky business’ looks at some of the emerging trends and consistent risk areas for voluntary sector involvement in public services, http://blog.cfg.org.uk/index.php/public-service-delivery-is-risky-business/.
  • On NCVO’s pages, an examination of a recent report by the CBI and NLGN on local authority commissioning, ‘Commissioning Dialogues’. With “Business as usual not an option”, the report calls for a more open and transformative dialogue between local government and public service providers. The article says it is worth a read, but overlooks strengths of the voluntary sector.

Plus, from The Guardian: ‘We need to iron out problems with payment by results’ says that problems can occur in a payment by results system, but the charitable sector should discuss solutions rather than reject contracts entirely.
