Considering social value in public procurement

The Social Value Act, coming in from 31st January, will mean that public bodies in England and Wales will need to consider the social value created in an area when choosing who delivers public services. The requirement won’t apply to all contracts however – see discussion on The Guardian’s Social Enterprise pages and a lawyer’s advice published on those pages.

The Cabinet Office’s Public Procurement Note giving guidance to commissioners and procurers is available. Also check Social Enterprise UK page at http://www.socialenterprise.org.uk/policy-campaigns/campaigns/social-value.
