Addressing worries on sector independence

The Panel on the Independence of the Voluntary Sector has published the second of four annual assessments, ‘Independence under Threat: the Voluntary Sector in 2013’, which had a strong response. The report finds that the independence of the voluntary sector is under serious threat, especially from government, with contractual gagging orders on some charities and poor commitment to the Compact. Some reactions: a New Philanthropy Capital piece suggests charities could regain their campaigning voice through collaboration, http://www.thinknpc.org/blog/are-campaigning-charities-losing-their-voice/, NCVO’s Karl Wilding says the report’s conclusion is too pessimistic.
