Leading third sector Scots endorse independence

From Third Force News: In its first week, over a hundred people from a diverse range of organisations including human rights, social care, the environment and welfare groups have joined the Third Sector Yes campaign which supports Scottish independence http://www.thirdforcenews.org.uk/2013/12/charity-leaders-launch-third-sector-yes/.

Charity Commission budget continues to decline

Various sector media report that the budget for the Charity Commission (England and Wales) for the next two years has been trimmed again following the Chancellor’s autumn statement. The regulator’s annual budget will be just over twenty million pounds by 2015/16, a cut of almost fifty per cent in real terms since 2007/08.

Visualising open data and values

Two platforms to enable organisations to engage with data in new ways, both supported by Nominet Trust, launched on 9th December:

  •   The Global Value Exchange, previously WikiVOIS, is an open source database for individuals and organisations who are trying to account for and measure the social or environmental value that their activities create, http://www.theglobalvalueexchange.org.
  •   Data Unity is an open source web tool which lets you explore and visualise data, and then share discoveries with others.
