A Volunteer Satisfaction survey of over 2,000 volunteers who registered on the Do-it website in 2011 found that one in three people who had expressed an interest in at least one volunteering opportunity had not been contacted within 10 days of making their application. YouthNet, which runs Do-it, sees this as highlighting capacity problems in trying to meet demand. http://www.youthnet.org/2012/11/volunteer-satisfaction-survey-2012/.
Meanwhile research by Ipsos MORI for Church Urban Fund found that only a third of people in England aged 15 plus volunteered for any kind of organisation or event. Church Urban Fund has appealed for more people to make a difference in their communities.
