Disclosure and Barring Service launches

With the launch of the Disclosure and Barring Service on 1st December, taking on the functions of the Criminal Records Bureau and the Independent Safeguarding Authority, there is a new website at http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/dbs/. Volunteering England has updated its protection and safeguarding information page at http://www.volunteering.org.uk/component/gpb/protectionandsafeguarding Their new guide to DBS checks can be downloaded from there (pdf, 351KB). They have also repeated their call for the government to confirm whether the online Update Service, due to go live in spring 2013 and making checks portable, will have a charge for volunteers or not.
