New cloud computing services from charity specialist

A range of "cloud" services has been launched by appiChar, a managed IT specialist for the charity sector, working with ThinkGrid. Cloud computing, roughly, uses the internet to provide resources, software, and information to computers and other devices on demand, hopefully at lower cost.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR RE-USE SHOP

Warwickshire County Council invites expressions of interest for the operation and management of the reuse shop located at Princes Drive household waste recycling centre and waste transfer station in Leamington Spa.

The successful organisation will be chosen on the basis of their proposal to operate the shop, including the benefit they will offer the local community and/or local environment.

GuideStar UK merges into Directory of Social Change

The Directory of Social Change has taken the online charity database GuideStar UK under its wings, along with subsidiary trading company GuideStar Data Services.

The UK was the only country where GuideStar International owned the local body, and it will now be able to focus further on developing new GuideStar database services around the world. This does appear to be a good fit, given the slightly unstable history of GuideStar UK.

Mentoring and Befriending Foundation launch new National Training Programme 2009-2010

MBF is pleased to announce that booking has opened for our third annual National Training Programme. Running since September 2007, MBF has trained over 700 mentoring and befriending practitioners and helped them to learn more about setting up and managing successful schemes throughout England.
