Helping older people get online

Silver Surfers' Day, which aims to help older people get online, has a new website at http://www.silversurfersday.net with information for those holding events or wanting to find one.

Push to take Charity Commission services online continues

In an interview with Third Sector magazine, executive director of charity services at the Charity Commission David Locke talks about moving services online being key to the Commission continuing to improve its services despite shrinking resources. It still lacks addresses for 28 per cent of charities, which it wants to tackle so it can do away with paper communication as soon as possible.

International online information services merge operations

The international online information and resources services of US-based TechSoup Global and UK registered charity GuideStar International are to combine their operations. Guidestar International will continue to operate as a UK registered charity focusing on its sector reporting services, currently in six countries.

American volunteer management software adapted for UK

Volunteering England has given its backing to volunteer management software originally developed in North America which has been adapted to meet specific UK requirements. Researchers at the University of Nottingham have looked at the reliability and accuracy of medical advice which can be found online using the Google search engine.

Online filing requirements for charity accounts outlined

How charity accounts data could be required to be filed online has been revealed by HM Revenue and Customs at a meeting organised by the Charity Finance Directors' Group. The iXBRL online filing requirement would only apply to incorporated charities.
