Proposals for a register of government lobbyists
The government has launched a consultation on its proposals for a Statutory Register of Lobbyists.
The National Council for Voluntary Organisations has said that it recognises the need to regulate lobbying activity in order to prevent further ambiguity and mistrust in the political system, and that there shouldn't be a two tier system so charities should be subject to the same rules and regulations. NCVO will be consulting its members on striking the right balance between transparency and bureaucracy, with a particular concern that smaller organisations should not be dissuaded from engaging with the political system.
