N Ireland regulator wants to know about pending cy-près cases

The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is preparing to assume its powers to make cy-près schemes. Such schemes enable the transfer of a charitable gift from a charitable purpose which cannot be carried out (for example because a charity named in a will no longer exists), to another charitable purpose which is as close as possible to the original.

As the previous route via the High Court could be costly, CCNI is anticipating some organisations may have been waiting for CCNI taking on the role, so wants to discover the approximate number of cases which have accumulated. An advance notification form is available, and charities are asked to complete a.s.a.p., deadline 17th January.
