Modernising Scottish charity restrictions
Submitted by voluntarynews on 12 March 2010
The Scottish parliament has repealed a restriction set a century ago on the amount a specific charity could give out to its beneficiaries (widows living in Govan or Glasgow). The maximum had been set at £25, suitable then but not now.
A committee of MSPs has proposed that there should be a review of other Scottish charities set up under their own legislation to see if they can modernise without excessive legal work. Civil Society eNews, http://www.civilsociety.co.uk/fundraising/news/content/6223/.
