London becoming the global hub of civil society
Italian Filippo Addarii, now resident in London, has a blog piece based around the recent Capacitybuilders publication, 'Alternative approaches to capacity building - emerging practices abroad', available from http://www.capacitybuilders.org.uk/node/294.
In the blog he states "Charities here haven't got globalization yet. However, globalization is happening in the third sector ..... and London is one of its engines." In the last 5 years at least 30 large foreign NGOs from across the world have opened an office in London. "They all move to London for the same reasons: funding. Some have started competing for visibility and influence on policy."
