Announcements on key sector research

-- Capacitybuilders, the sector support funding body, has commissioned the single largest evaluation to date of the impact of the government's investment in third sector support services. The evaluation team will seek to quantify and track the impact of capacity building activity across the country and assess the effectiveness of the ChangeUp model, including the impact on frontline organisations. More detail.

-- The baseline for judging progress on making multi-year funding the norm for the third sector has been established by the Office of the Third Sector. Across government departments, the average proportion of direct grants that are for three years or more is almost two thirds. See news item.

-- The Office of the Third Sector has announced plans to commission independent research into the licensing system for public charitable collections. OTS will then work closely with the Charity Commission to develop the right licensing system based on the evidence provided by the research, within the framework of the Charities Act 2006.
